Early Impressions about Romania
Betting parlors, bingo and
lotteries must be very popular in the country based on the presence of
omnipresent ticket sellers, etc. Small town Romania certainly appears to be
poorer than Hungary based on the condition of the roads, sidewalks, intercity
bus system, bus stations; i.e. far more ‘primitive’ or perhaps more aptly what
I expected from what I grew knowing as an East European country but is now
known as Central Europe.
The Butchers' Tower is octagon-shaped and partly surrounded by a nine angled defense bastion. |
The Tailors' Tower guards the back entrance of the citadel. Below shows how gates may have come down as needed. |
The Bootmakers' Tower was a defense tower first mentioned in 1521 but is now a newspaper office and a radio station. |
Holy Trinity Orthodox Church seen initially from the historic center, i.e. above on the hill, and then up close. Too bad it was closed as it was beautiful from the exterior.
Nighttime shots of the Citadel.
Good night one and all from Sighisoara, Romania.
